Completed in 1912 and renovated in 1982, Northwestern Mutual’s iconic headquarters building is an impressive example of Classical Greek architecture in downtown Milwaukee. The building was designed by Chicago architects Marshall & Fox and continues to be the cornerstone of the company’s downtown campus.

The exterior of the current HQ is Harwich White granite, quarried in Vermont. The building’s ten soaring Corinthian-style pillars are 74 feet in height, 7 feet in diameter and weigh 422 tons each. In the lobby, the flooring features rose-colored Hautville marble with accenting green-marble inlay. Italian marble frames the beamed and coffered ceiling. The ornate light fixtures and all bronze furnishings are original. Of particular interest are the bronze floor lamps with their ram’s head design.

Doors Open participants will be greeted in the main lobby with the opportunity to view a time lapse video of the 1912 building construction. After, you will be taken on a 40-minute guided tour through our atrium up to our interactive company museum on the third floor, visit the eighth floor auditorium, view our hall of presidents and finally step inside our guest dining room, notable for its mahogany paneling and stained glass windows.
